Background to Games Maker programme & the Selection
Event opportunity
Please note the opportunity below to become a
Selection Event Volunteer (SEV) for the London 2012
Games Maker programme. A further communication will be
coming out, along with application forms, within the
next week. However, in order to ensure that there is
sufficient interest I would be really grateful if you
would confirm by email to
janet.matthewman@gonw.gsi.gov.uk whether you would
be interested in applying. if you could do this by
Monday 13th December that would be much appreciated.
Volunteers have been integral to both Summer and
Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games since they were used
for the first time at London 1948. So in 2012, the
volunteer programme will be coming home to the city
where it all began! The London Organising Committee of
the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is
seeking to attract, recruit, select, and train up to
70,000 ‘Games Makers’ to volunteer during London 2012 -
representing the largest workforce mobilisation in peace
time the UK has ever seen.
The application window closed on the 27th October,
and LOCOG have been delighted with the level of public
response. To help them find the best and most passionate
volunteers LOCOG are planning on inviting and
interviewing up to 120,000 candidates on a face-2-face
basis at one of their selection events. They have
procured a venue in the Docklands to be the main
selection event in London and will be taking the
experience ‘on the road’ across the UK including
Manchester at the Lowry DMC from the 24 March-16 April
2011. To help LOCOG undertake this huge challenge they
are currently recruiting approximately 2,500 Selection
Event Volunteers (SEVs) from working partners, members
of the public, sponsors, and a unique tie-in with a
number of universities across the UK. This email is to
test potential interest in non student SEVs to volunteer
for the Manchester Selection Event next year.
To become a SEV LOCOG are looking for a minimum of a
20 hour commitment across 4 shifts (which could include
weekends).
If you are interested in applying to become a
Selection Event Volunteer please email
janet.matthewman@gonw.gsi.gov.uk to register your
interest. You will be sent an application form in due
course.
